<strong>Jennifer Lesh</strong> was born in San Bernardino, California and has lived in and around Portland for the past seven years. Her work has previously appeared in Eclectica, McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, XConnect, and other places. The poems she read at the 2010 Wordstock festival can be found in the latest VoiceCatcher anthology, available at Powells Books. She&#8217;s a founding member of Portland-based writing group, The Guttery (http://theguttery.com), and is a former Pushcart Prize nominee and writer-in-residence for New Light Studios of Beloit, Wisconsin.</p>

<strong>David Cooke</strong> is one Portland ’s newest poets to be recognized internationally.  His debut poem earned the Ruth Stone Poetry Prize and a Pushcart nomination.  He was crowned champion of AmeriCymru’s Night of the Living Bards and just won second in the War Poetry Contest.  His poems show his love of vivid imagery and colloquial language, his passion for word play and spiritual questioning. He is also a founding member of The Guttery a writing group and can be seen performing with the Moonlit Guttery Team.</p>

<p>The Habit of Rainy Nights Press announced the Fall, 2012 publication of Bitten Dust, a novel by Ralph Salisbury.  </p>
<p>Bitten Dust is a powerful anti-war story which follows the life of Lackey York, a mixed-blood Cherokee from his birth at the end of The Great War to the birth of his grandson at the beginning of Desert Storm.</p>
<p><div id="attachment_207" class="wp-caption alignright" style="width: 310px"><a href="http://rainynightspress.org/files/2011/08/salisbury_ralph.jpg"><img src="http://rainynightspress.org/files/2011/08/salisbury_ralph-300x212.jpg" alt="salisbury" title="salisbury_ralph" width="240" class="size-medium wp-image-207" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Author Ralph Salisbury</p></div>Rockefeller recipient, Ralph Salisbury&#8217;s three books of short fiction and ten books of poems evoke his Cherokee-Shawnee-Irish-English-American heritage. His poem &#8220;In the Children&#8217;s Museum in Nashville&#8221; was published in the New Yorker, in 1960, and has attracted some attention as a precursor to the contemporary Native American literary movement.  </p>
<p>In selecting his 2000 book RAINBOWS OF STONE as an Oregon Book Award finalist, Maxine Kumin wrote: &#8220;Nature in Ralph Salisbury&#8217;s conception is a Presence to be addressed&#8230;  His book deserves a broad audience.&#8221; </p>
<p>His most recent books are Blind Pumper at the Well,  The Indian Who Bombed Berlin,  and Light from a Bullet Hole, poems new and selected, nominated for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize. </p>
<p>The Habit of Rainy Nights Press is an imprint of Elohi Gadugi, an Oregon nonprofit.<br />
The purpose of Elohi Gadugi is promote Indigenous American literature, and to assist new writers who address important social and environmental issues in their work. Founding publishers are Duane Poncy, an enrolled citizen of The Cherokee Nation, and his wife, Patricia J. McLean.</p>
